5 Defining Tech Trends that Will Shape Business

Search as end users know it today is a fairly blunt instrument. When enough compute power is available, keywords provide a mechanism for returning search results that end users hunt and peck through in the hopes of finding what they need.

Looking to apply a lot more context to those searches with the enterprise, Cloudtenna has added an Intelligent Search capability to its DirectShare file synchronization and sharing cloud service that makes use of machine learning algorithms and file attributes to enable end users to search files on a much more granular level.

Cloudtenna CTO Bryan Pham says everything from authorship, company organizational charts, established workflows, dates and other attributes are now factored into a search. In addition, Pham says Cloudtenna will soon extend that capability to iOS and Android devices via a DirectShare App available for download from iTunes or Google Play online app stores.

Just as importantly, Pham says, a complete chain of custody can now easily be established for a company’s most important documents because DirectShare enables the IT organization to keep track of who accessed what data at any given time. While DirectShare itself is hosted in the cloud, Pham notes that IT organizations don’t have to move files into the cloud to take advantage of Intelligent Search.

While search on the Web has become a staple of daily life, search within the context of any enterprise IT environment has never quite lived up to expectations. But with the rise of machine learning algorithms and other advanced mechanisms for tracking file usage, a long overdue enterprise search capability that is both easy to deploy and actually works may finally be at hand.
