Five Tips for Executing a Winning Mobile Strategy

According to AMI’s study, 2014 North America SMB Mobility Landscape, Opportunity Assessment & Outlook, small to midsize businesses will help the mobility market grow to a predicted $71.5 billion by 2018. The report says that small businesses account for almost eight of every 10 dollars spent on mobility services and products in the U.S. and Canada, while midsize businesses account for 20 percent of mobile-related investments.

AMI’s study highlights how mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones are revolutionizing SMBs. According to Andrew Kirk, AMI associate:

The next five years will see impressive growth in North America consumption of mobility and data plans. The smartphone market will experience a strong increase in related spending as a result of sustained repeat and replacement purchases. As tablet usage attains mainstream status, significantly stronger growth is expected with regard to SMB installed base, volume and associated spend. We’re forecasting a 21 percent CAGR in the U.S. and Canada for tablet data plans alone.

Mobile devices are providing credit card processing and GPS services among other necessary functions that SMBs use on a daily basis. Fast processors and the ability to take the devices wherever they need to go have made mobile devices a better choice for SMBs who usually relied on PCs and laptops for such tasks. Other uses that showcase the necessity of mobile devices for SMBs include collaboration, file sharing and accessing from multiple devices and from multiple locations, real-time communications and cloud document storage.

Other reports, such as Research and Markets’ global SMB spending report, have also predicted the uptick in SMT mobile spending. What these reports also show is the rise in BYOD among SMBs, which also should reiterate the importance of these businesses providing and enforcing strong BYOD policies among their employees to protect vulnerable company networks and data.
