In a move that significantly expands the management reach of DNS appliances, Infoblox has unveiled an Infoblox Network Cloud Automation platform that automates the provisioning of virtual networks.
Arya Barirani, vice president of product marketing, says that while there have been tools in place to automate the provisioning of virtual servers for years now, the provisioning of virtual networks has been a painstaking manual process.
Barirani says that via DNS appliances, the Infoblox Network Cloud Automation platform provides control over both virtual machines and networks, including the ability to assign and then reclaim IP addresses as needed.
Barirani says most organizations are in short supply of IP addresses, many of which wind up being assigned to dormant virtual networks. Via Infoblox Network Cloud Automation, organizations can dynamically reassign IP addresses as they become available.
In general, Infoblox has been moving to extend the management reach of its DNS appliances to take advantage of the central role DNS plays on most enterprise networks. This approach not only centralizes the management of those functions, it also starts to reduce the number of appliances from different vendors that IT organizations have to deploy, manage and occasionally babysit.
