To SaaS or Not to SaaS: 2015 Enterprise App Outlook
At the SenchaCon 2015 event today, Sencha outlined how it is pulling together a single platform through which IT organizations can build, deploy and manage both Web and mobile applications.
Sencha CEO Art Landro says the Sencha Web Application Lifecycle Management Platform will unify the deployment of multiple Sencha technologies within a modular framework that organizations can opt to deploy as needed. This approach makes it possible to easily deploy Sencha products alongside existing complementary technologies or opt to employ the entire framework, says Landro.
With the rise of mobile computing, Landro says it’s clear that IT organizations are under more management stress than ever. Given the number of platforms those organizations have to support, Landro says it makes sense to rely on Web technologies such as HTML5 more than ever. The challenge is finding a way for organizations to be able to manage all the complexity at their own pace.
Most organizations, for example, are still approaching the development and management of mobile computing applications one project at a time. Landro says it’s only a matter of time before the same management discipline currently used to develop and deploy Web applications is extended to mobile computing applications using a highly automated lifecycle management framework that covers everything from designing to prototyping, developing, testing, securing, deploying and managing those applications.
In short, Landro is making the case that deploying mobile and Web applications at scale requires a unified approach that spans everything from when they are first conceived to their ultimate retirement.
Naturally, it may take most IT organizations a little while longer to reach that level of maturity when it comes to managing their applications. But the one thing that is apparent is that the longer the application backlog becomes, the greater the ultimate management pain will become.
