Network Visibility Can Help Avoid the IT Blame Game
At the VMworld 2014 Europe conference, VMware today extended the reach of its cloud management framework into the realms of DevOps and compliance management.
The new VMware vRealize Code Stream offering makes it simpler to deliver frequent software releases and updates using the VMware vRealize Operations platform, which was formerly known as VMware vCenter Operations Management Suite. VMware vRealize Code Stream integrates with source control tools such as Jenkins, Bamboo, Git and Subversion and continuous integration.
In addition, VMware announced a beta release of VMware vRealize Air Compliance, a software-as-a-service (SaaS) application that is specifically designed to monitor VMware vSphere environments.
VMware is also releasing a rash of updates to the core VMware vRealize Operations Platform that allow the platform to more greatly scale the number of nodes it supports, and also includes new predictive analytics tools, extended IT automation support, enhanced integration with VMware log management software, and better cost analytics tools.
Martin Klaus, group product line marketing manager for VMware, says that at this point, VMware is as much an IT management vendor as it is a provider of virtualization software. In particular, Klaus says the VMware management tools play a significant role in preventing IT organizations from unnecessarily over provisioning capacity in VMware environments that are often fairly dynamic.
This latest release of VMware vRealize offerings, says Klaus, not only extends the reach of VMware management tools, but does so in a way that provides the scale needed to manage instances of VMware regardless of whether they are running in a private or public cloud.
Given the fact that those management tools are at the heart of the battle for control over the software-defined enterprise, it’s little wonder that VMware is now as focused on these as it is the virtual machine software that bears its name.
