Apple’s iOS has become a leading platform for mobile computing, with the explosive popularity of both the iPhone and the iPad. This book chapter will walk you through creating your first “Hello World” application.

In “Beginning iOS 4

,” experienced trainer and Apple developer Wei-Meng
Lee provides an unintimidating starting point for learning how to create iOS 4
applications for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

Our excerpt comes from the second chapter, entitled “Write Your First Hello World!
Application.” This chapter shows you how to use Xcode development tools to create a
simple iOS app. Lee walks you through creating a new project, building the app using
Xcode, designing the user interface and adding an app icon and start-up splash
