To Do Checklist for Online Screening of Job Candidates

‘To Do’ Checklist for Online Screening of Job Candidates

Looking for more information about promising job candidates online can be useful, but it can also expose the enterprise to risks of litigation if information is used improperly in the hiring process. This checklist will help you sort out appropriate candidate research.

We live in an age in which individuals can do nearly anything via the Internet,
including look for a job. It makes sense that employers should be able to look for
employees online as well. So they post jobs on sites like CareerBuilder, Monster,
    LinkedIn and Facebook.

But what happens when they have a few candidates they like? Can they continue the
quest for information online? Sure. But they don’t want to inadvertently run across
details that legally can’t be used in the hiring decision, such as those pertaining to
the applicants’ age, race, family planning, religion or any other protected status.

To that end, the first and last recommendations on this list for successful online
screening of job candidates are to proceed with caution.
