SAP ERP software is definitely something most organizations need to grow into; it’s the pains usually associated with that growing that companies could do without.

To simplify the process associated with first-time deployments of its ERP software, SAP has created the SAP ERP Foundation Extension, a turnkey platform for deploying its ERP software on top of its in-memory HANA computing platform or any other SQL database platform.

Recognizing that many organizations are intimated by the complexity of SAP software, Marty Etzel, vice president of energy and resources and corporate functions for SAP, says SAP ERP Foundation Extension has been developed for organizations in high-growth markets that are rapidly expanding beyond the capabilities of their installed enterprise applications.

The goal, says Etzel, is to provide an approach to moving to SAP software that provides the shortest time to value by allowing the organization to go live as quickly as possible. By deploying on HANA, Etzel says organizations also get the added option of deploying SAP ERP Foundation Extension on premise or in a cloud managed by SAP or another cloud service provider. In either scenario, SAP ERP Foundation Extension comes with optimizations for a variety of vertical industries, integration tools, role-based controlled access, business intelligence, sales management and mobile computing applications.

SAP ERP Foundation Extension is the latest SAP effort to expand the appeal of SAP software to the midmarket. The company’s Rapid Deployment Solutions have been primarily optimized on more specific application scenarios. With SAP ERP Foundation Extension, SAP is now taking that core concept and applying it to an entire suite of applications.

SAP is now providing a foundation for a turnkey implementation that can be deployed on servers from any of the major vendors that already support the HANA platform. That may not solve every SAP deployment issue an organization is likely to encounter on their SAP journey, but it does simplify efforts to get it started.
