IT executives at midsize companies have fared better in compensation overall, having regained all the losses from the recession, according to a salary survey from Janco Associates. In the past year, however, enterprise CIOs received a bigger pay boost, 6.04 percent to a mean salary of $182,210. Still that’s just below what they were making in 2008.

By contrast, CIO pay at midsize companies grew by just 1.6 percent to a mean of $165,820. The report doesn’t figure in bonuses, but says they remained steady over the past year. Median CIO tenure has grown by a month to four years, three months.

Salaries for IT pros overall grew from $77,773 to $79,312, showing full recovery from the recession. Compensation increased at midsize companies from $74,016 to $75,784, and at large companies from $81,531 to $82,840.

It found the highest demand for positions in quality control, records management and data center operations management. However, in contrast to all the cries from employers that they can’t find the talent they need, the Janco report asserts that the Bureau of Labor Statistics put IT job market growth at 62,500 positions in 2012 – not enough to employ the number of IT graduates from U.S. universities or to increase demand.

InfoWorld has more on the jobs showing the biggest salary increases and decreases at both midsize and large companies.
