We all have to stay attuned to the labor market and keep our skills up to date. Academics from Bath Spa University – yes, that is a real university — in the UK have gazed into the future and predict some new IT-focused roles emerging in the next five years, reports appstechnews.com.
I have to admit, some of the names make me cringe: digital citizeneer? Pervasive mediatrician? Software level crosser?
Some of them already exist, or at least some forms of them do, though not with those awful names. The digital citizeneer, for instance, is the ethics specialist when it comes to the company’s use of social media. The data ecologist manages the company’s data in the cloud. The virtual environment manager is sort of like the person in charge of scheduling the company’s meeting rooms, though these could be online meeting rooms or Facebook communities. The transliteracy developer works to develop staff’s abilities across IT platforms and media.
Says professor Andrew Hugill, director of creative computing at Bath Spa University, of the findings:
“Creative people are becoming increasingly tech savvy, and there is a clear requirement already in business for creativity that works seamlessly with technology – these jobs are the next step in the direction many companies are already heading in.”
Um, yeah.
What do you think the new roles of the near future will be?
