The Benefits of Big Data Hindered by Traditional Analytic Approaches

Kofax acquired data integration software vendor Kapow Software this week for $47.5 million.

Kofax specializes in a variety of information-related solutions, including information capture, mobile, analytics and process management.  Kapow offers real-time application integration, with a focus on supporting self-service integration for business users. Its core product, Kapow Katalyst, includes support for connectors to Hadoop and Informatica middleware.

Kofax will use Kapow’s solution in conjunction with its own agile Big Data platform to provide easier access to “quantities of data that were not accessible before.”

This is the second acquisition this year for Kofax, which acquired BI and analytics vendor Altosoft in March for $13.5 million.

Learn How to Build Your Own Data Science Program

The Web seminar, “Building the Data Science Team,” will be held Monday, August 12, at 12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PT. You’ve heard about the invaluable data scientist, but early adopters have learned it’s not one data scientist that leads to analytics success; what works best is a data science team.

Data integration and analytics expert Evan Levy, who currently serves as DataFlux’s head of consulting services, will discuss how leading organizations built their data science teams, including obstacles they face, tools used in data science labs, the core members of a data science team and what individual team members should contribute. This free Information Management event is sponsored by SAS.

On a related note, the Bloor Group has made last week’s webinar on “Introduction and Fundamentals of Data Science” available as a free download.  Practicing scientist, Dr. Geoffrey Malafsky, founder of the PSIKORS Foundation and former nano technologist, explains what data science entails and how it differs from just data analytics, data management, business intelligence, and other data related fields.

The hour-long program includes a discussion of how to design a roadmap for data science, as well as an outline on how you can achieve quick wins with a data science program.
