Help Users Learn to Identify Phishing Scams

‘Tis the time of year that hackers increase their online scams in search of weary victims who are online shopping for a deal. The holidays generally show an increase in the number of phishing email scams, and although most people think they are savvy to such email, a recent survey found that nearly 30 percent of respondents still couldn’t identify a sample phishing message.

Considering that many employees use tablets, phones, and laptops at home, on the road, at the coffee shop and in the office, it’s important that IT staff make sure users are educated on how to spot and stop an email scam. Once a device is infected, the whole network is vulnerable.

Prior to the holiday season, IT organizations should ensure their users are prepared to deal with incoming scam emails by reiterating company email policies and helping users learn what to look for in scam messages.
