An increasing number of end users do not have much patience for IT when it comes to integrating their data. As a result, many of these users are taking it upon themselves to find self-service data integration services in the cloud that allow them to merge data without requiring any help from the internal IT department.
This week, ZapStitch announced its rebranding as Pipemonk and says that it will join the providers of those self-service data integration platforms by using its interface to allow “citizen integrators” to integrate data sets in as little as 10 minutes without having to write a single line of code.
Pipemonk CEO Satya Padmanabham says the company’s product is a multitenant cloud service through which end users can generate reports in real time by combining data from any one of the applications for which Pipemonk has developed a connector. In contrast, Padmanabham says most legacy data integration vendors are essentially putting portals in front of legacy integration platforms that were designed to be used by developers rather than actual end users.
Previously, Padmanabham says ZapStitch provided a namesake cloud service through which applications could be integrated on a point-to-point basis. As Pipemonk, the company now offers its Multi-Connector Platform for end users to create workflows that span multiple applications using a visual tool that eliminates the need to write any code.
For the most part, IT organizations are often of two minds when it comes to self-service data integration in the cloud. On the one hand, using professional developers to integrate data sets is a waste of a resource that could be used to provide more value to the business. On the other hand, self-service data integration brings with it a lot of potential data governance and compliance headaches. Like it or not, however, end users have made it clear that productivity is their top concern.
