Meanwhile, the StoreVirtual appliance creates pooled storage architectures for VMware and Hyper-V environments across various x86 environments.

By nature, the cloud involves the dispersal of data across distances great and small. In fact, many enterprises may already have part of their infrastructure in distant lands and not even know it. Most cloud operators use other clouds as their own backup, and these may or may not be in the general vicinity of the enterprise customer.
Ultimately, then, it will be the cloud operator who has to worry about things like the distance data needs to travel in order to be useful, while customers need only concern themselves with performance. But it never hurts to be aware of what is happening with your data, and the make-up of the environment you’ve entrusted should be open to careful and continual evaluation.
