Questions to Ask Before Implementing a Business Intelligence/Analytics System

Companies are moving from a spreadsheet-based culture to one that presents data on a business intelligence platform. As a recent slideshow here on IT Business Edge explains, the move can provide a big payoff for the organization as a whole … but only if you take the proper steps before implementation.

For example, as you begin the initial stages of shifting your data to a BI platform, it’s important to establish key performance indicators across all units for accountability. It’s also critical that you invest in a data infrastructure that can handle BI platform changes to avoid redundancy.

But even before you take the first steps, you’re going to need the right people on your BI team, including a BI solutions architect to provide production support; a SQL BI developer to aggregate data and design solutions for multidimensional databases; and a data mining specialist to mine enterprise systems. Use these job descriptions below to make the right hires.

Job Description: BI Solutions Architect: A highly qualified candidate for the position of BI Solutions Architect must possess the skills and experience to be a productive member of a delivery team, supporting both new development and production support, as the highest-level technology domain expert.

Job Description: SQL Business Intelligence Developer: Interested in learning what skills, education and experience you need to land a job as a BI Developer? Or, as an employer, are you looking for help in crafting a thorough, yet concise, job description that will attract worthy candidates? This sample description can assist you, no matter what side of the coin you’re on.

Job Description: Data Mining Specialist: Data Mining Specialists are responsible for designing various data analysis services to mine for business process information. Learn more about this important role in this detailed job description.
