As part of an ongoing effort to reduce the number of monitoring tools an IT organization needs to employ, Riverbed Technology today unveiled a new version of its SteelCentral platform that adds enhanced end-user experience management capabilities.
While Riverbed Technology will continue to offer various monitoring tools separately, Erik Hille, director of product marketing for Riverbed Technology, says it’s clear that IT organizations want more context about what’s happening in their IT environments. That context can only be achieved by being able to monitor networks, applications, servers and storage via a single pane of glass, says Hille.
To achieve that goal, Riverbed has brought together application, network, unified communications and end-user monitoring tools in the latest version of SteelCentral. The result, says Hille, should be a lot less friction between IT operations teams when it comes time to resolve any particular IT issue.
“We want to take the war out of the war room,” says Hille.
The latest enhancement to SteelCentral also advances the communication and interoperability of various modules, while making it possible to better prioritize packet traffic on the network based on the type of data they carry. In addition, SteelCentral is incorporating some of the end-user management functionality that Riverbed gained when it acquired Aternity earlier this year.
The typical IT organization spends a lot more time trying discover the source of a problem than fixing it. Once the problem is identified, it usually involves a simple fix. Finding the problem, however, can take days and weeks. One of the main reasons for that is all the time and energy wasted correlating information spanning multiple monitoring tools. At a time when IT organizations are under more pressure to respond with alacrity to the needs of the business, time spent investigating rather than resolving issues is a luxury that not many IT departments can afford.https://o1.qnsr.com/log/p.gif?;n=203;c=204663295;s=11915;x=7936;f=201904081034270;u=j;z=TIMESTAMP;a=20410779;e=i
