Document databases have emerged as the most widely used type of NoSQL database in the enterprise. MarkLogic this week announced it is making its implementation of a document database more secure as well as simpler to manage and integrate.
Announced at the MarkLogic 2017 User Conference this week, Joe Pasqua, executive vice president for products at MarkLogic, says MarkLogic 9 makes encryption a default setting in addition to enhancing document-level security and providing an ability to redact portions of a document.
“We’re moving encryption into the core database,” says Pasqua.
At the same time, MarkLogic is adding support for a new management console along with making it possible to collect telemetry data to improve overall database management.
Finally, MarkLogic is adding an Optic application programming interface (API) that allows developers to view data as documents, graphs or rows as well as more easily model relationships between different sets of data.
Pasqua says that while there is no shortage of document database options these days, MarkLogic has been squarely focused on building out a platform capable of supporting transactions at scale in an enterprise environment as an alternative to using a relational database. While MarkLogic in recent years has made a lot of progress in that regard, the battle is far from over.
