One of the biggest challenges internal IT organizations face today is the building and deploying of mobile applications. Because of the proliferation of so many consumer mobile applications built by companies with substantial engineering resources, expectations concerning what an internal IT organization should be able to deliver in the way of a mobile application run high.

To help level the mobile application playing field, Apperian, a unit of Arxan, has extended its namesake mobile application management (MAM) software to include support for the OAuth authentication protocol as well as providing an ability to employ Apple TouchID as a single sign-on (SSO) facility.

In addition, the latest update of Apperian enables more granular control over passwords to enhance mobile application security.

These additions, says Mark Lorion, president and general manager for Apperian, will enable IT organizations to significantly improve the overall end-user experience.

“We’re trying to help IT organizations to be able to mimic a public application experience,” says Lorion.

Of course, many organizations contract a third-party developer to build those applications on their behalf. But as it becomes more apparent that mobile applications are at the forefront of any digital business strategy, the demand for mobile applications now often exceeds the available budget. As a result, more IT organizations are starting to build and deploy mobile applications on their own. The real challenge they face is figuring out how to provide a mobile application experience that employees and customers will regularly use versus simply downloading once and then forgetting.
