There is no shortage of data that users of mobile computing devices need to access; the problem has been finding a simple way to actually make that happen.

To address that specific issue, Roambi has made its report writer engine that unifies access to multiple types of data available as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) application in the cloud.

According to Co-Founder and President of product innovation Quinton Alsbury, Roambi Business is designed to make data more accessible to mobile computing users regardless of whether that data was originally stored in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet or NoSQL unstructured database.

Priced at $39 per user per month, Roambi Business allows organizations to unify the presentation of various data sets under a common user interface. In addition to support for single sign-on capabilities and the Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML), Roambi Business includes support for an application programming interface through which IT organizations can automate the distribution of reports.

While there was a time when most people waited to get back to the office to make a decision, the fact is that it may be days or weeks before many workers return to their home office. As a cloud application, Roambi for Business makes it possible for IT organizations to not only give those workers the tools they need to make fact-based decisions on the road, it also allows the IT organizations to combine multiple data sets in ways that provide more insight into the data. Right now, however, most mobile computing users are asked to access multiple applications with different user interfaces in the hopes that once they compare multiple data sets they will be able to gain new business insight. Given the cumbersome nature of all those applications on a mobile computing device, the odds of that happening are slim to none.

By definition, mobile computing users are in a hurry. As long as the source of the data is secure, it should be the responsibility of the IT organization to give those users access to the richest set of data available in the most application-agnostic way possible.
