At its Global Partner Conference, HP unveiled a new suite of storage systems at entry-level prices—perfect for small to midsize businesses (SMBs) with tighter IT storage budgets. When money is tight, a smaller business may have to forgo scalability and performance, but HP hopes that its new HP MSA 1040 Storage System will change that while providing management through a single interface.
The new MSA 1040 comes with 1 GbE iSCSI, 8 Gb Fibre Channel, and 10 GbE iSCSI connectivity, while the HP StoreEasy Storage offerings provide NAS solutions with increased admin control toward security, file access and app performance. Also a new offering, the HP StoreOnce 4500 Backup System includes new scaling abilities that increase the maximum size to 124TB of storage capacity, which is triple the size of the previous solution.
These new offerings give SMBs the chance to purchase storage systems that won’t break their budget, but will reduce energy costs, decrease the data center footprint, and allow for further upgrades to other MSA technologies. For SMBs that are looking toward virtualization or consolidation, these solutions provide a more affordable way to get in on those technologies while avoiding the higher costs usually associated with such hardware.
