Once upon a time, it took several years before enterprise-class technologies found their way into small-to-medium business (SMB) environments. Now it’s just a matter of months.
At the Hewlett-Packard Global Partner 2015 Conference today, HP announced a read-caching addition to the HP MSA storage lineup based on solid-state drives (SSDs) priced starting at $1,599, along with a hybrid Flash array that is 12 times faster than an equivalently priced all-magnetic storage array.
In addition, HP unveiled an HP StoreOnce Backup appliance and new HP StoreEasy Storage file serving appliances that include software for disaster recovery and cloud backup.
Patrick Osborne, director of product management and marketing for HP storage, says it’s clear that the distinction between the size of a company and the sophistication of the IT environment has blurred over the years. What has not necessarily changed as much is the price point that many of those organizations require before they can find more sophisticated technologies to really be accessible.
The end result, says Osborne, is a focus at HP on being one of the vendors to bring advanced capabilities to the SMB market not only faster, but at price points that continue to get more aggressive with each passing year.
