As a new year begins, CIOs are creating data center plans and aligning strategic IT objectives with overall business goals. External service provider relationships, internal data center policies and even the skill set of the IT team are under heavy scrutiny. In this slideshow, Kevin Leahy, group general manager for the data center business unit at Dimension Data, has outlined six broad trends that will affect how IT departments will operate in 2015. These trends range from agile development to the actual size of the data center to Big Data analytics and the IT team, and showcase the true role of cloud and virtualized technologies within the infrastructure.

The following points outlined by Kevin include areas that IT leaders can focus on to build a solid data center that will mature with strategic business objectives.

Kevin Leahy is group general manager for the data center business unit at Dimension Data (www.dimensiondata.com), a $6 billion global ICT services and solutions provider. In his role, Kevin provides strategic direction for Dimension Data’s data center business unit – identifying areas for expansion and ways to help clients better achieve their business goals. His areas of expertise include the cloud, service management, virtualization and IT optimization. Prior to Dimension Data, Kevin held leadership, strategy and engineering positions at IBM.
