While the majority of IT organizations today are well into phase one of virtualization that is typically defined as deploying virtual servers to run non-essential applications, resistance to virtualization among owners of mission-critical applications has been stiff.

That resistance may finally be softening as more application owners realize that many mission-critical applications can run as fast or faster on modern virtual machine software than they can on legacy operating systems.

Once virtualization is adopted, IT organizations quickly discover the value of the agility that virtualization brings to IT operations. And at a time when many business executives tend to think of IT as too slow to respond to the needs of the business, virtualization finally gives the IT department a fighting chance to meet the agility demands of the business by provisioning and tearing down servers at a moment’s notice.
