Five Tech Priorities SMBs Don’t (But Should) Think About

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, approximately 90 percent of businesses have less than 20 workers, meaning SMBs are the backbone of the U.S. economy. They also have a lot to think about – from marketing to business operations and everything in between, small business owners wear many hats. With so many moving parts, sometimes IT tasks fall to the bottom of the list. This is especially true when many think that if they don’t have the resources for a 10-person IT department, they can’t have a system that runs efficiently. The truth is that with the right tools, any company, regardless of its size, can have a healthy network that improves the bottom line.

TeamViewer, provider of solutions for online communication, collaboration and remote monitoring, shares five IT-related priorities that all SMBs need to add into their business plan to keep their systems running smoothly.

    Backups

While people generally know why it’s important to back up data, most don’t really give it any thought until after something happens to their device(s) and their data is lost. Having a system that automatically backs up an entire computer (not just a document) on a regular schedule can save mission-critical data that need to be kept for operational or regulatory purposes.

    Data Restoration

While backing up data is an important first step, having the capability to restore lost data is just as important. In the event of data loss, it is imperative to have the ability to quickly restore data to the location where the user needs them.

    Remote Access

Companies have a lot of computers, tablets and mobile devices, and they are often not housed in one location. Instead of having to run around fixing user issues, having the ability to remote into an employee’s device to fix the problem is a huge time saver. Also, it’s a great asset for employees to have if they are working remotely and want to access a document or program located on another work device.

    Remote Monitoring

Nowadays businesses have limited resources, which results in even fewer IT personnel. Thanks to remote monitoring, companies now have an effective solution that minimizes their efforts and expenditures in order to achieve proactive maintenance, detect flaws before they become a problem, troubleshoot and minimize business disruption. No matter one’s location, having the peace of mind of knowing IT assets are up and running properly is crucial.

    Security Protection

All computers – no matter how careful the user – are vulnerable to random and targeted online threats, including viruses, Trojans, rootkits and spyware. To protect valuable data and keep a network healthy, scans must be conducted automatically on a regular basis to locate and eliminate potential issues before damage can occur.
