Cloud Adoption Is Rising

Cloud technologies provide a number of benefits, including flexibility, faster recovery and reduced costs. Nearly 60 percent of respondents stated they plan to incorporate cloud into their storage infrastructure, with test/dev, disaster recovery and archiving cited as popular use cases. These findings show a vast majority of enterprises are embracing the cloud, and are more likely to include hybrid infrastructures that combine on-premise and cloud storage.

Storage continues to be one of the hottest topics at VMware's largest annual conference, VMworld. The conference was full of storage startups and established vendors displaying their solutions for tackling storage's biggest pain points: data silos, management complexity and cost. Businesses are capitalizing on new storage technologies, such as hyperconvergence, to make data storage easier and more efficient.

However, many enterprises have come to rely on multiple storage solutions and vendors for their non-critical secondary storage, resulting in more data siloes and increasing stores of "dark data." This is becoming difficult to manage and needlessly expensive. Based on a survey at VMworld 2016 from hyperconverged secondary storage pioneer Cohesity, this slideshow identifies four key takeaways on the state of data storage today. Findings include pain points for secondary storage, average restore times, the growth of hyperconvergence and rate of cloud adoption in enterprises.
