While the economy remains tight, IT job availability continues to outpace other sectors, especially in hard-to-fill skill areas. This slideshow highlights the top 10 metro locations for tech employment, identified by Dice.com, based on the number of jobs posted as of October 1, 2011.

The New York/New Jersey area came in at number one with 9,156 jobs posted on October 1, 2011. That’s an eight percent increase over the same time last year.
Close behind, second place Washington D.C./Baltimore had 8,247 open positions posted, a six percent increase over last year.
With an increase of 22 percent, number three Silicon Valley had an impressive 5,578 positions listed.
In fourth place, Chicago was up 19 percent over 2010, with 3,666 jobs posted.
Los Angeles was close behind with 3,302 jobs listed, an increase of 18 percent over last year.
With an impressive increase of 42 percent, Atlanta showed great improvement with 3,233 open positions.
In seventh place, Boston was up 26 percent over last year with 3,205.
Dallas came in at number eight with 2,925 jobs posted, an increase of 36 percent of 2010.
Seattle showed progress with an eight percent increase in job listings over last year, for a total of 2,543 open positions.
Philadelphia rounds out the top 10 with 2,222 jobs listed, a 12 percent increase over 2010.
