The list of top companies for work-life balance is based on employee feedback shared in company reviews on Glassdoor. Each company review survey consists of 20 questions that capture employees’ attitudes about workplace factors, including senior leadership, communication, employee morale, career opportunities, work-life balance, compensation and benefits, recognition and feedback, and fairness and respect.

Nestle Purina came in at number one, with an average satisfaction rating of 4.6 out of 5. There is a lot of emphasis put on work-life balance, which typically translates into happier employees.
At number two, MITRE scored a solid 4.5 out of 5 with very satisfied employees. One employee commented that “everyone gives lip service to work-life balance, but you really see it here.”
Tied at number two, the SAS Institute shows a real commitment to work-life balance, coming from the top down. Employees rated SAS Institute with an impressive 4.4 out of 5.
FactSet joins this list in fourth place, with an employee work-life satisfaction rating of 4.4 out of 5. Employees enjoy a good benefits package, free lunches and flexible work schedules.
Tied at number four, United Space Alliance provides employees with a great work-life balance with the option of flexible work schedules. They rated 4.4 out 5.
In sixth place, Slalom Consulting was rated at 4.3 out of 5. Employees commented that the “work/life balance is not just talk with the company. They follow through and make good on that commitment.”
Tied for sixth place, Facebook also received a rating of 4.3 out of 5. Employees feel that the management is focused on their satisfaction and provides the ability to work flexible hours.
Morningstar comes in at number eight in an eight-way tie with a rating of 4.2 out of 5. Staff members commented that “Morningstar provides a perfect working environment and flexible work time.”
Susquehanna International Group (SIG) also received a work-life balance rating of 4.2 out of 5. Employees said SIG is “a great place to work if you enjoy learning, being challenged and have an impact. They provide concierge service arranged with businesses to make it easier to get your car serviced and clothing dry cleaned.”
Also tied at number eight, Colgate-Palmolive received 4.2 out of 5. Employees said that Colgate-Palmolive is a “great place to work [in a] truly caring, people-focused atmosphere. Work-life balance is a priority along with performance.”
Mentor Graphics also received a work-life balance rating of 4.2 out of 5. Employees are very satisfied with an excellent work-life balance.
Fifth in the eight-way tie, Autodesk was also rated at 4.2 out of 5. The company provides flexible hours, a sabbatical every four years, and you can bring your pets to work.
Also tied at number eight, Sheetz employees say the company provides great benefits and flexible schedules. Their rating was 4.2 out of 5.
Agilent Technologies’ employees say that the company “seems to really respect employees” and provides a “really nice setup for a balanced lifestyle." They also received a work-life balance rating of 4.2 out of 5.
With a rating of 4.1 out of 5, Turner Broadcasting also has employees who are very satisfied with their work-life balance. Employees say that “there is great flexibility with work schedules” and that “management is willing to listen and make improvements in all areas.”
Dupont also received a work-life balance rating of 4.1 out of 5. Employees enjoy working there and say that “management is very flexible with employee’s time-off needs and work assignments.”
Employees at Southwest rated the company with a solid 4.1 out of 5 because of flexibility in scheduling and relocation potential.
General Mills also tied with a 4.1 out of 5 work-life balance rating. Employees said that the company provides a great environment and good benefits, as well as the potential for “flexible work assignments.”
Biogen Idec comes in nineteenth with a work-life balance rating of 4.0 out of 5. Employees say the company provides a great work-life balance and networking among peers.
Scotttrade also received a work-life balance of 4.0 out of 5. Employees feel the company provides a great balance where you don’t have to bring work home with you.
Also with a work-life balance rating of 4.0 out of 5, Chevron employees say the company provides a “great work-life balance, but it’s tough coping with the bureaucracy.”
Synopsys ties with a work-life balance rating of 4.0 out 5. Employees say that “it provides a decent large-company atmosphere and benefits that come with a big company.”
MTV also received a 4.0 out 5 work-life balance rating. Employees say “upper management is flexible with vacation time, time off, sick time, etc., and they are understanding of your personal life."
Also with a work-life balance rating of 4.0 out of 5, Intuit employees say they get great compensation and work-life balance, but that there is poor career growth opportunity. “The lights in most buildings go off at 6:00 p.m., indicative of a healthy balance of work and personal life."
Employees are satisfied with their work-life balance rating at National Instruments and give the company a 4.0 out of 5 rating. Employees say “most management really cares about the people. Work-life balance is [a] priority.”
