2016 Business Communications: Changing the Way We Work
As video comes to represent a much larger percentage of the traffic flowing across the Internet, it’s clear that end users now expect to be able to communicate using video. The challenge facing IT organizations is figuring out how to incorporate high-definition video inside traditional enterprise workflows.
To make that challenge simpler, Vidyo today released an update to its VidyoWorks suite of routing and gateway software that reduces the amount of IT infrastructure consumed by Vidyo software by 50 percent, while enhancing the user interface in a way that makes managing video simpler.
In addition, the latest release of VidyoWorks improves security while eliminating the need to deploy a separate session border controller or a firewall that is specifically compatible with the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).
Finally, Vidyo announced that it is adding support for WebRTC in addition to support for the next generation of codecs that Google is in the process of rolling out.
Nicholas Reid, senior vice president of product management for Vidyo, says the ultimate goal is to not only make it much less expensive to deliver video using standard x86 servers, but provide a higher quality user experience that can be embedded within existing application environments using REST application programming interfaces and standard Web development tools.
While end users can now routinely access video via any number of public cloud services, Reid says many IT organizations want to be able to control that end-user experience within the context of new and existing business processes. To that end, Reid says VidyoWorks is specifically designed to dynamically adjust the quality of the video being delivered depending on the amount of network bandwidth being made available. That approach, says Reid, makes it possible for IT organizations to deliver consistent levels of video experience across a broad range of devices and networks.
Most enterprise IT organizations are still coming to terms with the rise of video on the Internet. But the one thing that is for certain at this point is that video is about to become a standard element of almost every enterprise application.
