It comes as no surprise that CIO and CTO salaries come out on top in the world of tech salaries, but cyber security pros have made the biggest salary gains in the past year, according to tech staffing firm Mondo.
And salaries are rising fastest in New York and San Francisco. In New York, base pay for security managers with at least 10 years of experience grew 61 percent in 2013 to $145,000 versus a year ago, reports Crain’s New York Business. Base pay in New York for systems analysts, meanwhile, grew 27.7 percent, from $65,000 to $83,000.
Mondo reported that these are the highest-paid IT positions across the nation, according to Network World:
- CIO, with a salary range of $195,000 to $230,000
- CTO, $145,000 to $208,000
- CSO, $145,000 to $208,000
- IT security manager with 10+ years of experience, $145,000 to $177,000
- Software architect, $144,000 to $170,000
- Application architect with 10+ years of experience, $136,000 to $185,000
Other positions that experienced big gains:
- Data analysts, base salaries up 18.3 percent to $71,000
- Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) engineers, up 18 percent to $118,000
- Senior help desk staffers (7-10 years of experience), up 15.4 percent to $75,000
- Technical writers, up 14.3 percent to $80,000
- Android developers, up 8.3 percent to $130,000
These jobs fell at the low end of the salary chart:
- Help desk staffer (1-3 years of experience), $40,000 to $65,000
- Hardware technician, $43,000 to $70,000
- Help desk staffer (3-5 years of experience), $55,000 to $74,000
- Desktop virtualization specialist, $55,000 to $70,000
- Desktop support analyst, $70,000 to $90,000
- System administrator (1-5 years of experience), $71,000 to $120,000
