Six Warning Signs You’ve Outgrown Your Software

With IT racing to connect everything from low-level hardware to entire IT solutions using an application programming interface (API), many are discovering just how time consuming it is to create those APIs. To help simplify that process, CloudRAIL today released a free set of tools that enables IT organizations to define one API through which they can connect to anything they want.

CloudRAIL CEO Felix Kollmar says the company’s Universal API to Everything enables IT organizations to define a single API that points to a database created by CloudRAIL. Via that database service, Kollmar says a single software development kit (SDK) will be able to invoke other API services registered in the database including, for example, Dropbox and Facebook.

Kollmar says organizations that have created APIs to make a service consumable by third-party developers will be keen to register their APIs in the CloudRAIL database to promote adoption of their APIs. Once an IT organization links to that database, however, the data flows directly rather than through the service created by CloudRAIL. That approach, says Kollmar, avoids introducing any unneeded latency.

In addition, Kollmar says organizations will be able to search the CloudRAIL database to discover various APIs they might want to invoke in order to accomplish a specific task.

While giving away the tools to create the APIs, CloudRAIL plans to monetize the database service. That database service will complement an existing set of tools and services that CloudRAIL developed to make it easier to invoke multiple backend cloud services.

Thanks to the rise of the API economy, more things are being interconnected than ever. The challenge facing IT organizations is not only reducing the manual labor associated with creating and defining those APIs, but also finding APIs that provide access to external sources of data and services that deliver value to the business in a way that is simple to consume.
