Five Reasons IT Service Management (ITSM) Must Be Part of Every Cloud Strategy

Cloud computing has gone from being a buzzword to a tried-and-true means of improving efficiency and lowering costs. But despite the benefits, many organizations are hesitant to adopt it.

A couple of weeks ago, we added a study to our IT Downloads library that came from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The study looked to see if special and/or additional precautions needed to be taken to ensure cloud security, which is often cited as a primary concern among those who haven’t adopted it yet.

While more research needs to be done, the researchers found that new cloud security controls are unnecessary, especially if you already have strong security measures in place.

Well, in addition to that study, the NIST has also put forth a cloud computing review that breaks down its features, including the deployment models available (private, community, public, hybrid, etc.). It also offers a detailed explanation of the various kinds of service models that organizations can use to meet their needs (software as a service, platform as a service, infrastructure as a service, etc.).

The review also looks at what security issues affect the cloud and what cloud providers must do to maintain their customers’ confidence.

Both publications are must-reads for anyone in charge of making a business case for a cloud computing implementation. You can use the information they provide to ease any concerns higher-ups might have about cloud security, while also working out a long-term plan for ensuring cloud computing success.
