As most businesses today are finding, useable data is growing by leaps and bounds. Even small to midsize businesses (SMBs) are gleaning actionable information from Big Data and information collected from Internet of Things-enabled devices. The next big hurdle is finding a resilient, safe way to back up all this data—often in the cloud. The solution may be provided by Seagate.
Seagate just unveiled its latest portfolio of Hybrid Cloud Data Protection solutions, which includes the Seagate Backup and Recovery Software, Seagate Backup and Recovery Private Cloud, Seagate Cloud Backup and Recovery Services and Seagate Data Management Services. As a hybrid cloud service, the solution spans two (or more) clouds and allows data to be used locally and off-site, but Seagate also promises “total security with regard to information storage, ruling out the possibilities of data loss or breach.”
As a solution, Seagate Hybrid Cloud Data Protection is simple to install and provides cost-effective data protection for even small businesses. The Backup and Recovery Software along with the Cloud Backup and Recovery services work together to automatically copy a business’ data to the cloud. The hybrid cloud service claims to “deliver up to 400 percent performance improvement in the speed of backup, restore and replication than the previous Seagate EVault offering.” According to Mike Palmer, senior vice president and general manager of cloud solutions at Seagate, the company saw a need for an affordable way for SMBs to secure their data against cybersecurity threats:
“Today our customers and partners are faced with explosive data growth, compliance requirements, the cost and complexity of non-traditional applications like the Internet of Things, Big Data and the ongoing transition to software-as-a-service. At the same time, IT budgets are not increasing, security threats continue to put organizations at risk and data center operations are taking more time away from the core business. Today we are responding to each of these challenges—through new performance, scale, availability and management solutions, which drive out operational complexity and give our customers and partners time back to run their core business.”https://o1.qnsr.com/log/p.gif?;n=203;c=204663295;s=11915;x=7936;f=201904081034270;u=j;z=TIMESTAMP;a=20410779;e=i
The company says the software can handle loads with read speeds up to 6TB of compressed data per hour on one module. Also, the Data Management Services analyze data usage, which can help with cost effectiveness, compliance and data governance.
As a leader in storage solutions, the company has been making significant efforts in the past few years to provide SMBs with access to storage options that fit their budgets and business needs.
