Given all the interest in the Internet of Things (IoT), many IT organizations suddenly find themselves under pressure to turn all the promised benefits of the IoT into reality overnight. To help IoT organizations accomplish that goal faster, myDevices this week unveiled a Cayenne visual programming environment for building IoT applications.
Launched at the IT Evolution Expo conference, myDevices CEO Kevin Bromber says Cayenne makes it possible for IT organizations to accelerate the development of IoT applications that make use of the Raspberry Pi platform based on ARM processors. Over time, Bromber says myDevices will add support for other platforms.
Bromber says the goal is to make it simple to build IoT applications that leverage Amazon Web Services, enabling IT organizations to quickly spin up applications in a way that minimizes capital outlays. Using a drag and drop interface, Bromber says an IT organization can spin up an IoT application in as little as seven minutes.
In contrast, Bromber says most other approaches to building IoT applications require IT organizations to master software development kits (SDKs) and low-level application programming interfaces (APIs).
While the IoT is generally regarded as a trillion-dollar opportunity to apply IT in ways that transform just about how every device is tracked and managed, most IT organizations have little experience building these applications. A visual programming tool may not be suitable for every IoT application instance, but for the vast majority, a simple set of tools that enables the organization to jumpstart an IoT project quickly is just what the business ordered.https://o1.qnsr.com/log/p.gif?;n=203;c=204663295;s=11915;x=7936;f=201904081034270;u=j;z=TIMESTAMP;a=20410779;e=i
