Why Enterprise Software Must Evolve In the Age of Apps

Giving people access to a mobile computing device and actually building a mobile workforce are two vastly different things.

With that issue in mind, Good Technology launched its customizable collaboration application for mobile computing users that resides the cloud at the Good Exchange 2014 conference today.

In addition, the company announced that it has integrated its applications with Salesforce1, the SaaS application platform developed by Salesforce.com, and is making available a Trusted Authentication Framework to provide a multi-factor authentication cloud service.

viz20140604-01Good Technology also announced that Good Pro, a secure email and calendaring service announced earlier this year that can be integrated with Microsoft Exchange and Dropbox.com, is generally available. The company also has completed the acquisition of Fixmo, a provider of mobile data protection software that it will make available as a service.

Good Technology CEO Christy Wyatt says the company’s portfolio of mobile computing applications is specifically designed to manage workflow across multiple computing devices using policies that give organizations granular control over what data gets accessed by users.

Rather than simply trying to manage mobile computing devices, Wyatt says the Good Technology model is based on a user-centric model that enables organizations to apply policies regardless of the device they happen to be using.

The Good collaboration app is built on the Good Dynamics Secure Mobility Platform that enables Good applications to share data with third-party vendor applications built on the same platform. Additionally, a Good Dynamics Shared Services Framework provides a mechanism in the cloud through which users can securely share file and printing services.

When it comes to mobile computing, the more sophisticated organizations are trying to move beyond simply providing access to email and files. Mobile computing represents an opportunity to take latency out of business processes by allowing users to collaborate wherever they are. Measured in those terms, a sophisticated mobile computing application environment that is optimized for managing workflow across an enterprise IT environment is nothing short of priceless.
