Adobe Incorporates Government IDs into Digital Business Processes

Mike Vizard

Adobe today advanced its case for being at the center of digital business transformation initiatives by adding support for capturing images of government-issued identifications alongside electronic signatures.

In addition, Adobe says it has integrated Adobe Sign with Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Talent and ServiceNow HR Service Delivery applications used widely by human resources departments, and that Microsoft has opted to make Adobe Sign the default electronic signature to be employed with Microsoft Information Protection, which is a set of tools for classifying the sensitivity of documents stored to be stored on a public cloud.

Mike Prizament, senior product marketing manager for Document Cloud at Adobe, says many organizations have been risk averse when it comes to digitizing certain processes because of concerns over fraud. By adding support for government-issued identifications, it becomes a lot simpler for organizations to keep track of what was approved by whom at any point in the process, says Prizament.

“There are now more audit trails,” says Prizament. “There are a lot more mechanisms to track a process.”

Prizament says Adobe Sign has been employed over eight billion times within a transaction. Now that government-issued identifications can be incorporated into a digital process, Prizament says the number of transactions incorporating digital signatures should only exponentially increase. The days of asking people to physically travel somewhere to, for example, buy a house or a car may soon come to an end.

Fraud in all its forms still costs organizations multiple billions of dollars a year. Electronic signatures attached to digital copies of driver licenses and passports may not put an end to fraud. But it should put a significant dent in it, while at the same time making it that much easier to eliminate paper from everyday transactions.

In the meantime, digital business transformation is now a matter of when rather than if. The challenge is finding a way to accomplish that goal without sacrificing the integrity of any transaction associated with those processes.
