The future of SOA

Does service-oriented architecture have a future in IT? The answer to that question was yes when Anne Thomas Manes, a research director with the Burton Group and industry expert on Web services, wrote the obituary for service-oriented architecture in January. Where does SOA stand now?

Re: The future of SOA

I understand why people are frustrated with SOA, but I have to say I'm convinced IT isn't done with SOA yet. As I've said before, I believe SOA will go the way of object-oriented architecture, meaning at some point in the future, it will just be the way things are done.

By the way, analyst Judith Hurwitz recently made a similar, but more thorough, case for SOA on her blog. It's a good read, even if I do mildly begrudge her using my title - "Yes, Virgina, There is a SOA."

Re: The future of SOA

In thinking about this some more, I think the real question might be whether IT can even pursue SOA if it's now taboo among business executives.
