Seven Criteria for Choosing an IaaS Provider

With IT organizations increasingly being asked to take control of the organization’s cloud computing deployments inside and outside of the data center, tools for managing heterogeneous cloud computing environments are becoming a major IT requirement.

In the race to provide those tools, ScaleXtreme today announced the general availability of Advanced Cloud Management, a software as a service (SaaS) application through which IT organizations can manage both their internal clouds and workloads running in the data center that are managed by external cloud service providers.

According to ScaleXtreme CEO Nand Mulchandani, Advanced Cloud Management is specifically designed to give IT organizations access to a set of tools that erase the boundaries between clouds without having to deploy any dedicated IT infrastructure to run cloud management software.

Advanced Cloud Management provides a range of IT management capabilities that extend from server monitoring and governance to being able to deploy applications across any cloud computing scenario an IT organization needs to support.

Mulchandani says next-generation cloud management capabilities are needed to realize the dream of creating truly virtual data centers that can be deployed inside or outside of traditional enterprise IT settings in a way that allows applications to dynamically scale. All of that, says Mulchandani, can now be managed via a single pane of glass.

As cloud computing continues to mature in the enterprise, the need to manage application workloads that are distributed across multiple clouds is finally forcing the IT management issue. Up until now, many IT organizations could afford to essentially ignore any cloud computing deployments that they could not manage. But now that the tools are available to manage clouds wherever they are located, the scope of responsibility of the IT organizations is expanding accordingly.
