Seven Must-Have Features for Great Mobile Apps

Looking to make it a lot simpler to update mobile applications, SAP has updated a SAP Mobile Secure service that automates much of the deployment of mobile applications built using the SAP Fiori user interface frame that SAP created to modernize its applications.

While the new capabilities of the SAP Mobile Secure service will be extended to a broad range of mobile applications, SAP is clearly applying new mobile management innovations to its own portfolio of applications first.

A Fiori app can be deployed to a mobile device by passing the Fiori endpoint URL to the configuration service, which then packages the URL into the configuration of a SAP Fiori Client application, builds and signs the app, and then makes it available via the SAP Mobile Place application store.

Amisha Gandhi, SAP director of global product marketing for mobile, says that SAP has now developed over 300 different mobile applications for use across multiple vertical industries.

In general, IT organizations are starting to deploy mobile applications to get closer to customers and remove latency from any number of business processes. The degree to which they want to develop those applications themselves or make use of packaged mobile applications that can be customized remains to be seen. But as part of a larger strategic SAP effort to make IT simpler, mobile application deployment may be one of the first tangible SAP examples of that strategy starting to bear some fruit.
