Seven Ways "As a Service" Can Benefit You

One of the more vexing issues associated with enterprise applications is anything and everything to do with upgrades. While every vendor says customizing enterprise applications should be avoided, the vast majority of businesses wind up customizing them to one degree or another. That usually works fine until it comes time to upgrade that application. Recreating all the customizations that have been made in the new environment is a painstaking process by any measure.

With the introduction of a new cloud service today, Panaya plans to simplify the enterprise application upgrade process for organizations using SAP, Oracle E-Business Suite and applications by several orders of magnitude.

The Quality Management Cloud from Panaya allows IT organizations to capture all the customizations made to an enterprise application and store them in a central repository in the cloud. Whenever an application is upgraded, those customizations are automatically captured by a central repository in the cloud through which they can then be reapplied to the new environment.

Based on a Big Data analytics engine, Motti Tal, chief marketing officer for Panaya, says Quality Management Cloud captures, analyzes and identifies patterns within applications that make it easier to capture all those customizations. The Panaya cloud service includes the ability to simulate the impact of changes made to applications, code remediation capabilities and collaborative testing tools.

Tal says that one of the side benefits of Quality Management Cloud is that it makes it a lot easier for IT to detail the level of complexity associated with any upgrade project, especially when it involves multiple applications. Tal says the simple fact is that most business executives never fully appreciate the impact of all the customizations that have been requested over the years.

The underlying technology that Panaya is using to automate the upgrade process has been around in an on-premise form for years. By moving that technology to the cloud, it just got a whole lot more accessible to a much broader number of IT organizations.
