Questions to Ask Before Implementing a Business Intelligence/Analytics System

In a recent post here on IT Business Edge, Loraine Lawson compares self-service business intelligence (BI) to a unicorn. In theory, it sounds perfect: Provide an intermediary solution that gives business users access to the information they need without having to involve the IT department in capturing every detail. However, like a unicorn, finding a true self-service BI solution that delivers is, well, the stuff of legend.

Lawson also points out that even a true, self-service BI requires the help of IT for behind-the-scenes issues, so there’s no getting out of it completely.

If you’re a provider of a BI solution, you know important it is to find out exactly what your customers want, in terms of the information and reports they need on a regular basis. That’s why it’s important to capture all of that before you get to work on a customized solution.

A recent addition to our IT Downloads library will help you outline the goals of responsibilities of your BI project.

The Sample Business Intelligence Contract comes from the book, “Getting Innovation Right: How Leaders Leverage Inflection Points to Drive Success,” written by Seth Kahan. The book reveals how your company can secure real traction and growth in the marketplace.

The contract breaks out the agreement into several well-defined parts, including a Situational Summary, Objective and Measure of Success. It also spells out joint accountabilities so that each party is privy to what is expected of them.
