How Redundant Applications Drive Up the Cost of IT

For all the complaining about the cost of IT, the root cause of most IT expenditures continues to be an almost insatiable appetite for applications among business users. A new survey of 100 companies of different sizes, conducted by Capgemini and Hewlett-Packard, finds that IT organizations are struggling under the weight of extended application portfolios. But the study finds that many of those applications are redundant, resulting in ballooning IT costs.

So in the same breath, business leaders cry out for reduced IT costs, then call for more applications. It’s little wonder that enterprise IT is between a rock and a hard place.
