Every IT organization today is focused on containing costs to one degree or another. But after an IT organization has done the comparatively easy stuff, such as adopting virtualization to reduce costs, the question quickly becomes what to do next.
In a survey of 250 worldwide IT executives conducted by Vanson and Bourn on behalf of Micro Focus, a provider of application migration tools, it becomes pretty clear that many IT organizations are starting to turn their attention toward application modernization. In many cases, this means replacing existing applications with applications that are less costly to run, or it can mean migrating portions of those applications to run on a lower-cost platform.
In either case, the survey shows that IT organizations are gearing up to take on some of the most difficult IT challenges out there as they move to the next phase of their IT cost containment strategies.
