NetApp has decided that duplication is as bad for storage systems as it is for the data they contain, reports eChannelLine.
The company has decided to phase out the low-end StoreVault S line, targeted at SMBs, and replace it with entry-level FAS systems going forward.
The most likely candidate to replace the S550 and other systems is the FAS2020, which is more scalable and offers greater protocol support to provide a more flexible storage environment. It also provides a clearer upgrade path to higher-end systems.
The company says it will offer a FAS2020 bundle with a six 500GB drive configuration for about $10,000, $2,000 higher than the S550.
Support for the StoreVault line will remain until 2012, although there will be no more system enhancements.
