Despite the ongoing arguments over the respective benefits of iSCSI and Fibre Channel, the fact is that many enterprises will be dealing with mixed environments for quite some time. So in lieu of a unified fabric, it makes sense to at least have a unified management structure.
That's the aim of the latest release from network automation specialist Dorado Software. The company's Redcell Storage Commander, the latest module for the Redcell 6.1 system, offers automated configuration and management for both types of SANs.
The system provides a range of configuration capabilities, including zoning, VSANs, storage pools and storage volumes that include masking and mapping. Configuration tasks can be performance manually, on a predetermined schedule or through an event trigger.
The system also automates change-management tasks such as retrieval, maintenance and restoration of network device configuration files and firmware, all of which are tracked via a simple GUI.
Trial versions are available from the company's Web site. The full version starts at less than $1,300.
