A British firm called Axstor says it has developed the world's fastest iSCSI storage server, and has done it on the lowest power footprint to boot.
The Ai-Pro 5108 server sports eight 1 GbE iSCSI ports capable of delivering 800 MBps and 80,000 IOPS. The system can be configured with up to 60 1.5 TB SAS drives, with expansion firmware planned for next year that can bump the system up to 128 drives. SATA drives or higher-speed 450 GB SAS drives are also supported.
Power consumption is rated at 65 watts per controller, which shaves up to 200 watts off comparable systems.
The company said it designed the system for high I/O environments like SQL and Exchange applications, as well as virtual platforms.
