After first abandoning Microsoft Office for OpenOffice and then giving up Internet Explorer for Firefox, the French government is taking its migration one step further.

The Register reports France's parliamentary police force will move 70,000 desktops from Windows XP to Ubuntu Linux gradually over the next four years. The department's deputy IT director Colonel Nicholas Geraud says the move to open source is saving 7 million euro ($10,347,406) a year.
