Does Apple Want iPhone Clones?

Lora Bentley

One would think high-end consumer tech provider Apple wouldn't want iPhone wannabes from other vendors to hit the shelves anywhere near the real thing.

However, a post at Mad4MobilePhones.com suggests otherwise. Quoting CrunchGear and an unidentified "Mac geek," the blogger indicates Apple is in talks to license the iPhone's operating system.

A peek at the CrunchGear article reveals a claim that Apple engineers have been tasked with making the iPhone OS "work with other hardware." It's also clear that none of the sources for the piece are identified. That alone makes us wary, for obvious reasons.

Even still -- it provides discussion fodder at the very least.
