Linkify Embeds Mobile Search Inside the Browser

Mike Vizard

Across the enterprise, building mobile computing applications is all the rage. But there’s a world of difference between building a mobile application that people check out from time to time and one that they find both engaging and useful enough to want to regularly use.

Looking to help organizations develop mobile computing applications that users don’t view as disposable, Linkify has released the beta version of a namesake software development kit (SDK) for Apple iOS and Google Android devices that makes searching when using a mobile computing device a lot simpler and, frankly, more practical.

Most mobile computing applications today require the end user to toggle into a dedicate search application to look something up that is related to something they are reading on their mobile computing device.  The Linkify SDK makes it possible to integrate search engines, news and other reference sites directly within a mobile browser.

According to Linkify CTO Ikuya Yamada, the Linkify SDK is intended to help developers make their applications stickier in terms of usage. In an age when the line between a business-to-consumer (B2C) application and a business-to-business (B2B) application is blurring, Yamada says making mobile applications simple and efficient to use is now a fundamental requirement for all developers.

Of course, search may not be the first thing developers think of when trying to make mobile applications more appealing. But as is often the case, it’s the little things inside an application that end users often appreciate most, which can be the difference between an application the end user intuitively loves and one of thousands that many users simply never open more than once or twice.
