Verizon Wireless

The $28.1 billion acquisition of Alltel will make Verizon Wireless the largest U.S. wireless carrier, leapfrogging AT&T. It has agreed to divest itself of cellular assets in 18 states to win approval from the Federal Communications Commission for that deal. With the new spectrum it recently acquired, it's required to allow any device and any application on its network. As attention turns to 4G, Verizon Wireless has aligned itself with Long-Term Evolution, which is still early in its development cycle.
