Virtual Tape Library

A virtual tape library is a storage strategy in which data is saved to hard disks instead of to tape libraries or tape drives. The existing tape backup software can still be used. Virtual tape libraries offer storage consolidation and can speed data recovery and restoration. The rationale behind virtual tape libraries is that the backup systems are essentially fooled into thinking that a tape-based system still is in use. Virtual tape libraries also can save space and increase system efficiency.
